Movies magically transport audiences to other realms using an urban backdrop, a fantasy land or even a different era to shape the story and its characters. Travel through time with a panel of movie buffs and history lovers, as they introduce movies that showcase a different era as a key part of the action. This program is presented in partnership with Trylon microcinema. On March 19, join guest host, fashion designer Samantha Rei, and watch "Tank Girl" (1995, 35 mm), directed by Rachel Talay and starring Lori Petty, Ice-T and Naomi Watts. Based on the beloved titular comic strip, the 1990s are given their own Mad Max in Tank Girl. Playing on the anxieties of the first Gulf War and the end of the Soviet Union, Tank Girl’s future now seems so 1995. About Samantha Rei: Rei began her career as a fashion designer in 2000. She’s been featured in Huffington Post, Shojo Beat, the American Gothic and Lolita Bible, Gothic Beauty, Glamour UK and Vogue UK. A lover of history and storytelling, she is also the author of "Steampunk & Cosplay Fashion Design & Illustration: More Than 50 Ideas for Learning to Design Your Own Neo-Victorian Costumes and Accessories."
